A Love Note from Michelle!

Continuing with the BIA LOVE - to celebrate upcoming Valentine's Day - enjoy this project from blog guest Michelle Reaves.

I needed a convenient and pretty wayto store my Spellbinders Dies and decided to make an album for them. My newBind-it-All had been sitting on my craft table waiting for it's debut and thiswas it! I took 12X12 cardstock and cut it down the middle and used the piecesfor my album cover and back. I then took some of my favorite 12X12 papers andfolded them down the middle and glued them shut to form my album pages. Next Icut strips of magnetic sheeting with my Xyron and adhered them to the pages -- thesemagnetic strips will hold my dies in place. Once I had my cover, back cover andpages ready I followed the instructions in the nifty guide that came with my Bind-it-Alland Voila! I had the perfect storage album for my dies. I admit when I firstgot my Bind-it-All I was a bit intimidated but it was so easy and so fun touse! Watching the BIA DVD really helped ease my fears. The next step was toembellish the front cover inside and out..fun fun fun! I created the closurefor the album using the Tim Holtz Hardware Findings Die and Grungeboard alongwith a Tim Holtz Hitch Fastener. The pocket on the inside cover holds the infofor each die from the original packaging. I used Tim Holtz Tissue Tape aroundthe outside edges of the covers for a nice finished look and feel.

BIA Love from Kriss:

Ever since I bought my first Bind-It-All(shortly after the release of the original one), it has been and still remainsone of my favorite craft tools! The obvious reasons would be the versatility ofprojects you can create with it, and since I love to create small albums,books, and notes books it's the perfect tool. But the biggest reason I lovethis tool is that is made well and it works like a work horse. It's sturdy andeasily cuts through multiple sheets of cardstock and chipboard. I have used myoriginal Bind-It-All to teach classes and it has been well used over the years,and yet it punches holes with the same clean cuts it did when it was new.

I have since purchased the Bind-it-All V2.0 and because of the quality ofworkmanship in these tools, I purchased the Zutter Kutter.

The project I want to share with you isa autograph book I made for my 12 year-old son, Levi, when we surprised himwith a trip to Steeler's Training Camp this summer. The best part was when weran into my sister and her family the second day of camp and when she sawLevi's autograph book, she said "Oh, I wish I would have seen that in themerchandise tent!"

Foil Tape Sheets, Pitch Black Adirondack Alcohol Ink, Heatit tool,Blending Solution, Jet Black Archival Ink Pad, and Glossy Accents, Ranger

Pattern Paper, My Mind's Eye

Black and White Cardstock

Chipboard

Using the Zutter Kutter, cut two pieces of chipboard, two sheets of blackcardstock, and 20 sheets of white cardstock to 5 1/2" x 8 /2".
Cover the front side of both chipboard panels with pattern paper.
Cut Foil Tape Sheet to 2" x 9 1/2" and two pieces to 1" x3". Ink entire surface, of all three pieces, with Pitch Black Alcohol Inkand heat set with Heatit tool. Emboss each piece using Diamond Plateembossing folder and Cuttlebug. Apply a small amount of Blending Solution to asoft rag and gently rub the raised surface to remove the black ink. Remove thepaper backing from the 2" x 9 1/2" strip and apply 3" down onthe front cover; wrap edges around to back. Create corners with 1" x3" strips and add to the top corners of the front cover.
Using black cardstock, cut letters to spell Steelers five times. Using GlossyAccents, glue five layers of each letter together to create a thick, raisedletter. Once dry, sand any rough edges with sand paper or emery file. Glueletters to cover with Glossy Accents and then apply a layer of Glossy Accentsto the top of each letter for an epoxy effect.
Using a computer, print out place and date on coordinating cardstock. Punchwith decorative label punch, ink edges, and apply to cover.
Apply pattern paper to the inside of both the front and back covers.
Put book in order - front cover, black cardstock panel, 20 white cardstockpanels, black cardstock panel, and back cover. According to Bind-it-All guides,punch holes covers and pages. Put together with 3/4" Black Owire.

Cover-All Frames

I love finding new uses for all my scrap stuff and I thought the Zutter Cover-Alls would make a great standing frame. This one I made for my brother-in-law who just got married, but it would also make a great Valentine's Day gift!

To make the frame I covered the Cover-All with patterned paper (for this frame I used the new Echo Park Yours Truly Collection). The patterned paper I used on the outside is a different pattern than the inside.

Then I embellished the front of the Cover-All with a sticker and added some tulle and a rose ribbon I colored with my Glimmer Mists.

For the inside I added 2 photos of the happy couple from their wedding day and a few embellishments.

I love that you can place these on your shelf or mantle for display and they stand up really nicely and they are decorated on the outside and inside. You can make these frames for anyone for any ocassion and they are super easy to make! Have fun crafting a few of your own.

Supplies:

Zutter Bind-it-All

Zutter 3”x4” Cover-all

Zutter Owire 1/2” Brown

Materials: Kraft, denim, navy andfaux leather cardstock, scraps of denim fabric, jean rivet button, buttonblanks twine

This mini album/purse combo was madeusing Zutter 3”x4” Cover-all and 1/2” Brown owire. It’s covered with denim cardstock and fauxleather paper. The handles and bottom strip were folded then machine stitched. Coverswere embellished with a jean rivet button and button blanks covered with denimmaterial scraps. The beads were rolled using the same papers and were attachedto a piece of cotton twine. The entire cover was edged with brown ink and atouch of gold. The inside pages were made using 5 pieces of 4”x 6” kraftcardstock, folded in half to form a pocket page. A navy mat was added to bothsides of each pocket and embellished simply with punched flowers and pearlgems. Each pocket has a kraft paper tag which is 2.25”x 3.5” and is covered onone side with the jean paper. A small strip of ripped denim material was added toeach for the ribbon.

Recycle. Reuse. RePurpose.

Office scrap paper

This is what I had at work the other day. These sheets of paper contain data that I turn into reports. Once I am done with them, they go into the recycle bin. I get this much about every four weeks. During a couple of slow days during the holidays, I chopped a bunch of them into quarters to use as scrap paper at my desk.....but then I thought I would take it a couple steps farther with my Bind-it-All!

First I raided my stash of random Zutter Owire. I have loads of bits and pieces and different colors that I save for projects such as this! I also pulled out scrap cardboard that sits in a pile alongside my craft table. Since the scrap pieces of paper measure 5.5" X 4.25", I used my Zutter Kutter to trim the cardboard to 6" X 4.75". Along with the bits and pieces of patterned paper and letter stickers I save, plus a bucket of random embellishments, I made a bunch of scrap paper note pads for my office mates.

Admittedly, these are NOT fancy - they are not meant to be. They are made with the backsides of old emails and reports with random office information. The cardboard may be tattered or bent a bit, and the stickers or paper mis-matched. I know my office mates with still love 'em and use 'em! Just remember that with your Bind-it-All you don't have to start with fancy supplies. Look around at what you have and make something special with it. Recycling and Reusing is highly recommended!Happy New Year!

Thought it was time to showcase some of the lesser known hardware from Zutter - the Hang-it-Alls and the Zutter D's. By the way, the Zutter D's are shaped like the letter D....it's not obvious right away when you look at them, but that's how they got their name!

Well, the new year is upon us

.......and many people get to thinking about what resolutions

they want to make for the coming year!!! Not so much for me this year.
2011 was probably one of the hardest years EVER
....I'm looking forward to 2012!!!
I've been inspired by a member of Swirlydoos to do something different this year..........
to create a Monthly Goal Art Journal!!
NOW.......I LIKE THAT IDEA!!!
It just sent my mind in motion.
I haven't made an album in WAY TOOOO LONG......
so I was more than happy to pull out my 8 x 8 Zutter Canvas Artboard (currently clearance priced!) to use for my cover!!!

I painted a little, spritzed a lot, inked some more and glued everything down!

The inside pages are varied in size and mediums, cardstock, chipboard,

Must Be Christmas

Christmas is my favorite holiday, listening to carols, beautiful glowing lights, spending time with family and friends. I love making (and receiving) handmade gifts, one of my gifts this year is a Christmas mini album for one of my cousins and his family.

I created this mini album with the Zutter's 6" x 6" Cover-All and Crate Paper's Peppermint paper collection. For the cover I added some paper and chipboard embellishments. I added some glossy accents and glitter to the chipboard embellishments to make them even more festive.

To complete the cover I added some twine, buttons and a cute title.
For the inside since the pages were going to be left blank so they could add their own photos I kept it simple by adding some journaling tags and more chipboard embellishments to the pages. The Zutter Antique Silver Owire sets off the paper colors nicely, I think.

Ho-Ho-Holiday Album

It’s that time of year when you look at the calendar and say “Wasn’t I going to start making Christmas gifts before now?” Muhahahaha! I know, me too.

But I got a little bit going this week when I came across these chipboard albums at the $1 spot at the local craft store. Normally I don't go for the binder ring albums, because I am a Bind-it-All girl, but lately, I’ve been saying “Why not?”!!! Indeed, why not?

Bought some of these, covered the chipboard with paper and punched and bound these puppies along the bottom, for a forward opening sort of a book. Super quick, super cute, super unique. SUPER DE DOOPER! (homage to Barney, the purple dinosaur!)

So don’t shy away from album starters that might not look Bind-it-All compatible to start with. You can usually make it work. See Jennifer’s post about the same topic here.

Oh (Bind-it-All) Christmas Tree!

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree, how lovely are your branches!

I love decking the halls at Christmas time and I love making my decorations even more. This Christmas I wanted to make some Christmas trees to add to my mantle at Christmas time and came up with these really cute little trees, Bind-it-All style!

To make them I cut the paper into triangular shapes, folded them in half then punched four holes into the paper along the folded edge, using the Bind-it-All. I then cut a piece of Zutter owire with two extra holes on it which will create the trunk of the tree. For my trees I used 10 triangles in total but you could use more or less depending on how full you want your tree to be.

Line up all the papers and feed the owire through them just like you are binding a mini album but leave two of the owire threads left hanging out the bottom of the paper. Bind it, then carefully glue the back side of each triangle to the next one so the stay together. Decorate with buttons, twine, ribbon, whatever you have on hand.

I love how they turned out and I know they will look great on my mantle. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Travel Mini - Stocking Stuffer?

The holiday season is in full swing and now is the time to think about making handmade gifts!! This mini makes a great stocking stuffer or coworker gift, all made easy with the Bind It All! I literally made this mini while I watched a movie -- it's that easy!

I have had an 8x8 pad of October Afternoon travel themed paper and stickers in my crop bag for well over a month. I knew it would be perfect for a fun travel themed mini! According to a poll, in which my husband was the only participant, 4x4 is a great, "cute" size for a mini book. I laugh at how much my hubby knows about crafting. He could totally teach a class after listening to all of my blather all these years!

So, back to the project at hand.

First step was to cut a 12x12 Chipboard to 4x4 pieces -- you'll get nine. If you don't get nine, then something went wrong....but that's okay, just use whatever you have on hand. If you have Zutter Chipboard, Clipboard Wood, or Acrylic Covers in 4x4, even better!

After that, cut your patterned paper to 4x4 -- you'll need 18 pieces, 2 per chipboard.

Next randomly glue the 4x4 papers to each side of the chipboard pages. I usually put the same paper on front and back and the leave the middle to a random mish mash of patterns. Not too much thought is involved here--if you think about it too much, you'll spend hours on this project!

Punch all of the pages in the Bind It All. 4x4 is also a great size because you can set the BIA to "C", punch each page once, and it goes super quick.

After all of the pages are punched, apply paint to a foam brush.

Squirt out just a little paint onto the brush and use the top of the paint bottle to work the paint into the brush. You don't want to apply a blob of paint to the brush and then put that on your book--it will look like a blob! Lightly brush the edges of the pages with the paint to cover the brown chipboard.

Bind all of the pages together. Even though this book is small, I used 1.25" O-Wire because the book is thick and I wanted room for bulky embellishments. The rule of thumb for choosing O-Wire is to choose a diameter of wire about 1/4" larger than your book is thick. A 1' thick book would then use 1.25" O-Wire.

I used a combination of chipboard stickers, twine, and embellishments I made to decorate the pages.

I made two Epiphany Crafts Square Charms and adhered them to an Epiphany Crafts Charm Setting and hung it from the O-Wire with jump rings. This Charm Setting is double-sided which I LOVE!!! And the O-Wires on the book just have endless decorating possibilities.

Fall and Christmas are my favorite times of year. I love the chilly weather, the baking, the decorations, the many reasons and occasions for the family to come together....it is a joyful time!

The Girls Layout - with the Distrezz-it-All & Corrugated Board!

featuring the Zutter Distrezz-it-All and Zutter Corrugated Board.

While I was at the Scrapping Frenzy convention in Alabama I had a chance to make this layout. The photos are of me with my mom and sisters from my last trip out to Arizona.

As you can see in the photo below there was a whole lotta Distrezzin' goin on! I used my Distrezz-it-All from Zutter on the background paper ("Textures" Memory Mosaics), on the Artistic Paper, on the photo mats ("Nana's Notebook" from Trunk in the Attic), on the extra corrugated board die cut with my Creative Pages set (the first one) and then right on the photos themselves! I Smooch Spritzed the Artistic Paper with "Caramel Latte" and the new "Cashmere" color. I also inked the edges of almost EVERYTHING with my new Mix'd Media Inx from Clearsnap.

Below is a double butterfly made with my Wonderful Wings Spellbinder dies. I die cut the lacey part out of my Artistic Paper and the background part from shipping labels. I used the sticky side of the sticker to adhere Fairydust Glitter in Pralines & Cream. The fancy tag was die cut from my 8x8 paper pad that has "Compatible" images that you can die cut from the Spellbinder dies and then to make it even more fabulous, I added the bling from Want2Scrap that matched the fancy tags as well!

In the photo below, I die cut the lacey strip from my Creative Pages Two set out of my Corrugated board from Zutter, embossed it and inked it with my "Truffle" Mix'd Media Inx, then wrinkled it and made a ruffle out of it. Before I distrezzed the Artistic Paper I tore it to make it smaller (I shoulda used a paper trimmer) and I ended up tearing a long gash in it. I had bought a Sew Easy months ago but hadn't had a chance to play with it yet. However, I was sitting next to Monica at the crop and she had one so I got to try it out. The result is the stitching with the super thick string below. The Smooch Spritz was still damp on the string when I used my Inx on it and since they are water based the Inx blended really nicely. I also fussy cut the roses out of my Antiquities paper and embossed them with clear emboss to make them stand out.

The structured flower below is made with my Rose Creations dies from Spellbinders and Artistic Paper. The rose was Smooch Spritzed with "Cashmere". The smaller flowers were made from my Grand Peony Creations and my Crafty Chronicle and was Smooch Spritzed with "Caramel Latte". The leaves are from an oooooold Spellbinder set and I Smooch Spritzed them with my new "Evergreen" color. The bling swirls are from Want2Scrap and they are called Finesse Swirls. I cut them all apart and make the swirls go the way I need them to go... it is super easy to do.

On the left you can see a couple layers of my Shadow Flowers from Spellbinders. The medium sized die was used with my Crafty Chronicle for the Shadow Flower with the text and the large Shadow Flower was used with shipping labels with the glitter on the sticky side.

In the photo below you can see the Distrezzing a little better. And just in case you are wondering... I'll list who is in the pictures from left to right in the large photo: Me, my younger sister (DeeAnna), my mom (Nancy), and my older sister (Debbie).

In the photo below you can see the title letters that I cut out using my new "Donna's Aphas" from Spellbinders (We were soooo original on the naming of that die... LOL). I die cut the letters out of my Corrugated Board from Zutter, Spritzed them with the new "Gingerale" Smooch Spritz and inked the edges with my new Mix'd Media Inx in "Truffle". You can also see the extra Corrugated board behind the letters and this was entirely inked with the "Truffle" as well. **TIP - When you ink over a large area, make sure that you pat the pad over the surface you want to ink and don't drag the pad across. This can help extend the life of your Inx pads.** You can also see the second set of roses that were fussy cut from my Antiquities paper and embossed with Clear Emboss from Clearsnap.

In the photo below you can see the "Compatible" image that was die cut from my Artistic Paper Journal Cards. I Smooch Spritzed the card with "Cashmere" and while it was still damp I inked the edges with my Mix'd Media Inx in Truffle. You can also see the second medium Shadow Flower cut from my Crafty Chronicle behind the journal card and you can see that both the Chronicle Shadow Flowers were inked with my Mix'd Media Inx in "Truffle".

In the photo below you can see the medium shadow flower (cut from a shipping label and glittered on the sticky side with Pralines & Cream Fairydust) peeking out from the bottom. I also added a dymo label behind the opening on the page tab (that is from my Creative Pages Two die set from Spellbinders) and adhered it to the Artistic Paper. I finished the layout by using my vintage Dymo labeler to add "THE GIRLS" to the center of the Fancy Tag.

Fall Pop-Up Card with Zutter Corrugated Board

When I learned that I would be creating a "Fall" themed project, I was kinda intimidated because in Malaysia we do not have Fall season. I have seen this season on the Internet, in the movies and magazines. I really do love the fall season, hope to experience it someday! So I decided to show you how I created this fall card with a pop-up tree on the inside- using Zutter's Corrugated Board as a key component.

Here is the tutorial of creating a fall pop-up card...

First you need a card base of this size: 30.5cm x 11cm. Fold them into half.

To create the pop-up base, cut a 13cm strip of cardstock, then score it 1cm from the edge followed by 3cm from the edge (ie: the gap between the 2 scores is 2cm) on the both sides of the strip.

Fold all the scored lines and adhere it to the card base just like the picture shown.

Remember to spritz the smooch to create the red background.

To create the tree, I used Zutter's Corrugated Board as a trunk. Distressed it with Clear Snap ink for a natural look. Once you are done, paste it to the pop-up base.

Here I used dies to create my leaves and one of the leaf die is from Donna's collection called Rose Creations. Layer all the leaves until you are happy :)

Here’s an easy way to make a big handmade impression! Make your owncards and envelopes with the Zutter Scor-it-All Envelope Template and theScor-it-All scoring board. With thesetwo tools, you can truly make one-of-a-kind cards, sure to impress!

Use the Scor-it-All Envelope Template on yourchoice of paper. You can either tracewith a cutting blade on a mat, or trace with a pencil and trim with scissors.Follow the score lines marked on the template and score and fold. Use adhesive on the bottom flap edges and fold to seal the sides. Let’s start off the handmade fun with these fun décor pieces. These are super easy to make and can bedesigned for any occasion. We used thelarge Scor-it-All scoring board to create pleated folds on 4”X8” patternedpaper. Make your crafting easy and startwith some pre-cut 8”X 8” paper. The nicething about paper pads like this is that you don’t have to fret about findingcoordinating papers and colors. They all go together! By the way, I am using my "old school" Scor-it-All - which simply means, before they were made pink! The current Scor-it-All boards are pink to match the Bind-it-All and Dreamkuts! I am sort of true to my long time tools! ;)

For each “rosette” we used four 4”X 8” strips, scored accordion styleat ½” increments. What does accordionstyle mean? It means make a score, thenflip the paper over and score at the next ½” increment. That way the folds will flip over in theopposite direction with each fold. Use astrong, fast drying liquid adhesive and adhere the ends together, then flip thewhole strip around in a circular fashion (when the adhesive is nice anddry). You’ll want to have a circle (orin this case, a scalloped circle) on hand to adhere to the top of the rosetteto keep it from popping up. Then usesome relatively lightweight, but firm “paper weights” to hold it down while itdries! We like to let ours dry for agood long time, and then finish the embellishing.

Note, you can punch the edges of the paper before you score to add anice trim to the rosette. Or, try theZutter Distrezz-it-all for a nice ruffledlook. Use ClearSnap chalk or ink to adddefinition to the edges, and embellish away! We adhered our rosettes to thin dowels and used them for a holidaycenterpiece. You can make them smalleror bigger, depending on your mood – but always use the Scor-it-All for clean,crisp, professional scores and folds!

A Haunting We Will Go

I love halloween! It's one of my favorite times of the year. I love carving pumpkins, seeing my kids get dressed up and trick or treating.
Here's a quick and easy Bind-it-All mini album celebrating all things scary and creepy.

For the cover, I used a die cut paper and simply cut it to the size I needed it, added some halloween graphics and title and you have a quick title page.

For the inside, I kept it really simple and added one picture wrapped in twine and one or two embellishments.

I made this project for a dearfriend of mine who was changing jobs. This book is for her friends andco-workers to write their well-wishes in. Try repurposing things in yourprojects. The flowers inside the book are actually table confetti that I foundin the bridal section of the craft store. They made perfect embellishments. Youcan find lots of items for your projects that weren’t packaged forscrapbooking.

With some brightly colored paper, and simple tools like border punches, you can create dazzling pages to showcase photos and other memorabilia. Of course, your Bind-it-All makes creating custom books easy as ever!

Fun and Fabulous Folds is a 4-week online class featuring the Scor-it-All Board by Zutter, the makers of the Bind-it-All.

Week 1: We will start with a brief overview of the scoring tool and then move on to different styles of greeting cards.
Week 2: We will continue with more greeting cards, with a focus on pocket cards.

Hello lovely friends!! Natasha here to share a layout about one of the most important changes in my life... my marriage to my other half, my soulmate. We got married in January 2010, on a cold, yet special winter's day. We did not have a big wedding; we were married at City Hall accompanied by those close to our hearts. We were dressed in matching Juan Valdez sweatshirts because of the sentimental value they hold. We used to spend endless hours drinking coffee and talking at Juan Valdez Cafe in Pereira, Colombia. It is like our little haven where we shared stories and just enjoyed every moment together.

For this layout, I mostly used Donna Salazar's Theater papers from her Antiquities Collection. I love the subtle colors on these papers. I also used a sketch made by my talented friend, Michelle Grant. The photo was taken on our wedding day as we celebrated with family.

The scalloped heart and coordinating pearls are made by Want2Scrap. They manufacture Nestaboard and Nestabling that coordinate with Spellbinders' Nestabilities dies. Check out their site to see some of the gorgeous bling they offer!

I love the texture that hemp cord adds to a layout. And of course, I couldn't forget my beloved eyelets!

This gorgeous ornate corner is manufactured by The Dusty Attic. It's nearly impossible for me to create something without some Dusty Attic chipboard. These pieces add such beautiful dimension and elegance to any project.

I created my layout on Zutter corrugated board that was painted white and misted with Smooch Spritz in grape, cashmere and mixed berries. The edges were distressed with a Zutter Distrezz-it-All.

Behind the heart is a die-cut made from Donna's Shadow Flowers die. These dies make perfect accents for any layout. The tag behind the photo was cut using her new dies, Creative Book Pages Two.

I titled my layout 'A New Beginning' because my relationship with my husband marked a beautiful change in my life. Before I met him, I had a difficult life. I was unhappy with myself and I struggled to take care of two children on my own. My husband has been the source of great changes in my life, and I am who I am today because of him.

Below is a quick tutorial on how I added texture to the chipboard element behind my title.

Supplies Needed:

Chipboard Element
Smooch Spritz
Embossing Powder (I used white.)
Embossing Ink
Heat Tool
Texture Stamp
Ink Pad

STEP 1: Add a little color and shimmer to the chipboard element by spritzing on some Smooch Spritz. Dry with a heat tool.

STEP 2: Apply embossing ink to a texture stamp and stamp the image/texture onto your chippie.

STEP 3: Cover the chippie with embossing powder.

STEP 4: Shake off the excess powder and melt with a heat tool.

STEP 5: Ink the edges and gently swipe across the embossed texture with an ink pad. And you're done! I really love the effect of Clearsnap's white embossing powder. I tend to use it often. I hope you enjoyed my post today. Wishing you all a beautiful day! Many hugs. xoxo

Easy Birthday Cover-All Album

It is really, really, REALLY easy to make a cute album quickly using Zutter Cover-Alls. The Design Team loves 'em and we swear by 'em. Why? Because, along with your Bind-it-All, these little album-starters can make you look like the amazing craft diva that you are, in no time flat!

Start with a Cover-All, decorate the cover as you wish. Create your inner pages from cardstock, patterned paper...punch and bind to the plastic inner mounting page. Then insert the plastic page into the back pocket of the Cover-All. Voila. You can customize your inside pages ANY WAY you want. Add little goodies of various sizes and textures to truly make it all your own.

This little album was made for a friend's daughter's birthday. I like to make these as gifts so the recipients can add their own photos and journaling. Or, many times, I tell them to give me the photos and I add them in, and let them do the journaling. Any way you work it, it's an always appreciated and thoughtful gift!

Use a variety of paper patterns for matting and enhancing the pages. Along with border punches, you can really up the "wow" factor on the pages!

As you are trimming the papers, save the scraps and strips for embellishing. Add coordinating stickers to make creating go fast and easy!

I like to add folds and flaps to give the pages interest and movement. Plus, for most recipients who are not scrappy or crafty, they LOVE the interactive elements!

Start with a set of papers that coordinate well together and have fun. We are lucky that we get a batch of papers from Basic Grey every now and then. This collection called "Life of the Party" was perfect for this birthday theme.

Here is info on an event that Zutter is please to be part of! Our own Zutter Zister DT member, Fleur Smith is teaching one of her spectacular projects! If you are in BC or nearby, we hope you can support this wonderful event!
BC Scrapbooking Crop for Kids is an annual charity scrapbooking event benefitting BC Children's Hospital Foundation. Since 2008 it has become BC's most popular educational and inspirational paper crafting weekend. We offer a weekend-long crop with amazing classes designed and taught by talented designers. All of these classes are generously sponsored by local scrapbook retailers and scrapbook manufacturers. Proceeds from the sales of crop seats, class seats and any other products offered will benefit BC Children's Hospital Foundation.

It's a party...

I recently went to my boss' 70th birthday party and we were asked not to bring presents. I thought instead I would take lots of pictures and make him a mini album to remember the day. So, it's a gift, but not a gift, if that makes sense. We had a great time and they asked my husband, who is a musician, to sing at the party. And, when they heard that my youngest son also sings they asked if he would as well (that's them below singing "Hey Soul Sister" in the photo below!). It was a great night and I had so much fun creating this mini album for him.

I started by covering a Zutter 6" x 6" Cover-All* with patterned paper then added some embellishments. When I do a masculine mini album I try and keep the embellishments to a minimum. But this is so pretty, it doesn't really look "minimum" to the non-scrappy eye! ;)

I kept the inside fairly simple and added some extra pages (in case they wanted to add other photos) and a pocket page to keep a copy of the invitation in. You can create flaps and folds with your pages and punch how you wish with the Bind-it-All. Bind all the pages together, and you have a gift....well, a non-gift.... that will be treasured!

It was a great way to celebrate this special occasion with them and for them to have something to remember it by.

* Zutter's original Cover-Alls are on clearance. These being one of the easiest and quickest way to use your Bind-it-All for albums, snap some up while you can!

From Binder Rings to Zutter Owire: How to Convert a Mini

There are so many pre-fab books on the market nowadays such as Punky Sprouts, Clear Scraps, Bare Elements by Creative Imaginations, Bascially Bare and don't forget you can always create your own book using Covers and Acrylic Pages from Zutter. Many of these pre-fab mini books feature a 2 hole binder ring style binding but it is easy to convert that to an Owire binding with your Bind-It-All.

Recently I created a Halloween Trick or Treat Book using a Chipboard Purse Album from Clear Scraps where I converted the binding from binder rings to Owires.

The first step in converting the binding from rings to Owires is covering the pages. I prefer to paint the pages rather than cover them completely with paper because it is just alot faster and easier! I always cover my pages before binding, whether it is a pre-fab book or a bunch of chipboard pages, and then decorate after the binding is completed. This is so that my embellies don't get damaged or interfere with the binding. A bonus is that early on the process, I feel like I am getting alot done!

I painted all of these pages in this mini book but the binding holes were still visible. Then I cut rectangles of paper and used them as mats or borders on the pages, placing them so they covered the pre-cut binding holes. Note: If I had completely covered the pages with paper instead of painting, I would not have had to add any extra paper to cover the binding holes.

The next step is to decide where to bind the book. You may decide to choose a completely different binding area than what the book "recommended" with it's pre-punched holes. The key is to find a straight surface of about 4" or more in length. On this mini, I decided to bind the book along the same edge where the binding holes were previously placed.

On a shaped book or any book that does not measure in half inch increments (like a 6.25" wide book) you will want to measure the binding side of the book and locate the center. This can be done by inserting the page into the Bind-It-All and holding a ruler up to it. This book measured 6 3/8" from side to side so I lined up the centering arrow printed on the Bind-It-All with half that measurement (about 3 1/4") and punched 6 binding holes. I then used the peg on the back of the stop guide tab to punch additional holes continuously along the edge of the page.

The inner pages of this book were super tricky because they were just slightly smaller than the covers. I lined up an inner page with a cover and inserted both into the Bind It All. I then inserted the peg on the back of the stop guide tab into one of the holes on the cover and punched 6 holes. The Bind-It-All will re-punch the holes in the cover but punch new holes in the inner page. I then used the tab to punch holes continuously along the edge of each inner page.

After all the pages were punched, I bound the book with Owires and decorated! One of the coolest things about Owires is they also provide a place for "jewelry" to hang from between you pages. Beads, bauble, and other items can be attached to the Owires between the pages using jump rings or ribbon to create extra interest. On this mini book, I used some pages from several mini shaped acrylic books by Clear Scraps (bat, pumpkin, and ghost) as dangling embellishments between my pages by attaching them to the O-Wires.

On the final page in the book I attached a tag with journaling to the Owires with a bit of ribbon.

Any book that has a 4" straight edge or longer can be converted to an Owire based binding. This makes for a stronger book as well as provides a fun place to hang extra embellishments within the book. Try converting your next pre-fab book into a masterpiece with your Bind-It -All!

A Zutter-licious Project!

Hi everyone! Natasha, here... I am extremely excited (and a wee bit nervous) to share my first project with you! I wanted to create a unique layout that captures the joy I felt when my baby girl was born. Let me show you what I came up with!

This is the cover of my layout. A cover? For a layout? I know... it seems odd, but this is what makes this project unique. :o) I used Corrugated Board by Zutter and painted it white to create a shabby look. I also added lace that joins in the center to create a tie-closure. This project is bound together using the Zutter Bind-It-All. I LOVE this machine! It is so easy to use and there are so many projects that can be created with it.

I created the large flower using Donna Salazar's gorgeous Spring in Bloom papers. I adore the variety of beautiful colors and designs of this collection.

I enhanced this embossed chipboard butterfly with Clearsnap Cat's Eye Fluid Chalk Queue in Misty Meadow and Smooch Spritz in Pralines and Cream. I also sprinkled on a little Fairy Dust Glitter in Pralines and Cream.

These chipboard leaves were also covered in Fairy Dust Glitter in Sugar Shimmer.

And a little more glitter... can you tell I LOVE this stuff?

Now comes the actual 'layout' part...

This is the inside of my project. This is actually my first double layout and I had a blast creating it! I combined different designs from the Spring in Bloom collection.

I created my own flowers using Donna's Crafty Chronicle. If you are not familiar with The Crafty Chronicle, it is an acid-free periodical filled with ads, word games, maps, horoscopes and more. It has the perfect paper weight for creating hand-made flowers. I was a little sad about cutting it up because I really enjoyed reading it. :o) The flower was spritzed with Smooch Spritz in Pralines and Cream, Mixed Berries and Frosted Grape and covered in Mixed Berry Fairy Dust Glitter. To adhere the glitter, I used Glue Gloss by Clearsnap.

This chipboard corner was spritzed with Pralines and Cream and Mixed Berries Smooch Spritz and accented with Colorbox Cat's Eye Pigment Ink in Chestnut.

The title was created using the same technique as the butterfly on my cover.

I tend to do a lot of hand-stitching on my projects. I love the texture it adds and I find it therapeutic. :o)

All of the edges of my project were distressed using a Zutter Distrezz-It-All and inked using Colorbox ink.

Back To School with your Bind-it-All

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Back to school. I know most kids won't agree but as parents, as enjoyable as summer is, sometimes it's nice to get back into the school routine.

This year I made a countdown calendar for my kids (and myself) to count the days we have left to enjoy summer and the days we have left to get organized for school. To create this countdown cover an 8x10 Clip-Board Wood cover with school themed patterned paper. Then cut 10 pieces of 3x4 paper and make it into a little mini album to hang in the middle of the board.

Use the Rivet Hole Punch Set and Pound-it-All to make 2 holes at the top of the board to hang it and another 2 holes in the middle of the board to hang the countdown mini album.

Decorate each page and add a number for each day you want to countdown. Then to change the day undo the bow and flip to the next page. This way I can use it again next year.

You could easily adapt this to a Halloween or Christmas Countdown just by changing the patterned paper you use.

Yippee...only a few days left to full time crafting while the little ones are back to school!

I love Summer and I love traveling! This year I was so excited to visit the Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle! This album is a collection of photos I took there. I wanted to stick with a "market" theme so I used Zutter's 5 x7 corrugated cardboard for the base of my album!

I used the Zutter Round-it-all to round all the corners of my pages. I painted, inked, and sanded them as well as my photos, added some masking tape and viola! Last month when we ran our first Zutter Zummer week, Zutter Zister Camilla Isaksson from Sweden shared her Acrylic Tab Cover version of a Bind-it-All Smash Book. The project inspired so many people, including OZZ DT Member, Annette West, who has come up with her version of this popular memorabilia trend. Make your own Smash Book with your Bind-it-All, some handy cover materials, your spark of ingenuity, and Zutter Owires!

Everywhere I go and every forum I visit the latest talk is all Smash books - and sadly I am old enough to remember doing a very similar thing in my distant youth before it had such a fun name!! The great thing about the Smash rage is that it is allowing people to just 'play'... no worries about background paper matching, following a page map or spending an hour deciding where to put that particular embellie... you have something you want to keep to remind you of a fun time and you glue it in, add the date and don't sweat the other stuff. Smash books are liberating! I did look at buying one from my local scrap store but I sort of paused and thought that '"heck, I could make one for waaaay less" -- so that is what I did. Have Bind-it-All, will Smash...

I used a paper stack I have had sitting for a while... which is another good reason to make a Smash book... use up some of those papers we have sitting there!!

I added index tabs so that I could make the book relevant to what I wanted to Smash, such as.....

.....my Calgary Stampede page with tickets in a plastic pocket.

Made some pages with flaps to give me extra space.

Added some ATC holder pages for small stuff.

Made pocket pages for slipping leaflets and such.

Lots of pockets... can't resist a pocket or two!!

Folded the papers to make the pages a large pocket so that I can pop stuff into the pocket and it won't get lost until I have time to glue it in.

Tip: If you want to be able to use these plastic sheets in your BIA it is best to glue two strips of contrasting paper over the holes section - it will then be easier to punch without the plastic getting caught up in the punching channel.

My family decided to visit the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in D.C. and then a quiet, casual cook-out with sparklers away from the bustling crowds. So casual in fact that my hubby was in p.j. pants and my son was wearing Christmas elf slippers!

My 24/7 Days Bind-it-All Journal

Welcome to Day 2 of this hot Zummer! Today's project is from Emeline Seet, OZZ DT Member from Singapore. Hello everyone! Haaaaaaaaaaaappy Zutter Zummer! We are deep into summer right now, since it is August. I think of a lot of things when I think about summer, swimming, camping, the lake, our vegetable garden, canning pickles and salsa, and just being outside. Summer is also a time when many college students have a break, and look for summer jobs. We were fortunate enough where I work to have the most fabulous summer intern you could ever imagine. She is smart, efficient, reliable, creative, caring, and compassionate, all good things when you work at a hospital. I wanted to make her something special as a going away gift, so of course I thought of my Bind-It-All! Easy peasy to make any type mini I could think of. I also decided that since my family is moving this summer, it was time to dig into and use some of my stash. Since McKenzie's favorite color is purple, I went with it.

I have to confess, I am somewhat of a packrat, and I looooooooooove to save things. Time to create a summertime gift, and lighten my stash while I was at it. The first thing I do when I am creating a mini is gather a LOT of papers, scraps, and odds and end embellies that all coordinate. I love that creating my own mini means I can mix manufacturers and supplies with ease. Here is a photo of my initial pile of "ingredients" ~

Next I went through my piles and cut out my bases and some large accent papers~

After I had my papers cut, I inked everything with a Colorbox Violet Cat's Eye Ink. Inking everything really helps tie your project together when you use assorted manufacturer products, and helps to create a cohesive look. Next I began assembling my pages. Some of my pages were folded to add interest (I used my Scor-It-All, it works BEAUTIFULLY!), some were strictly 8 x 8 squares. After my pages were put together, stitched and embellished as I wished, I punched everything with my Bind-It-All, then assembed my mini. I used an 8x8 Bamboo Spine CoverAll (love those things, they look so neat and tidy, and hold a boatload of stuff inside). I sprayed the white CoverAll with a sparkly purple mist, then embellished the cover, and added a Perfect Closure to hold it all together ~

Don't forget to use your Round-It-All for creating perfect round corners in a second ~

I embellished a cardboard CD holder and put it on the next to last page. I thought if McKenzie had some favorite photos or a CD of songs, she could store it in her Mini. I left lots of space for her to journal and add bits of her favorite things, in addition to photos. Hopefully she will like her mini, and thinks of her summer 2011 when she uses it.

Fun in the Sun with your Bind-it-All

I take way more pictures in the summer than at any other time during the year. That means I have way more pictures to scrap too! This year I made a summer mini album that had lots of pockets and folds so that I can add plenty of photos to it.

To start, I found some nice bright summery paper and started playing around with making some fold out pages.

This page has three folds and can hold a total of 6 photos on both sides. It ends up folding out like an accordian. When making fold out pages just make sure you leave a 1/4" gutter for the Bind-It-All to punch for the binding. You can simply fold it once or play around with multiple folds.

I then wanted to make some pocket pages to add some extra photos or journaling. These are super easy to make. All I did was use double sided sticky tape and adhere three sides of the pocket to the larger sheet.

The final page has lots of room for photos and journaling and makes a fun reminder of our summertime.
